Message Guidance
- Today’s goal is to demystify the process around registering to vote and checking or confirming your voter registration status. Make sure all messaging points the audience toward reliable nonpartisan information sources, and offers clear, straightforward instructions on where and how to get voter registration information.
- Registering to vote is the first step of the process and takes just a few minutes! Not registering before a specific deadline could leave a voter out of the process so encourage people to take this first and easy step this week to keep their options open later on.
- Checking your registration and registering to vote doesn’t have to be a difficult process! Help your community become confident voters by using our different partner resources, including voter-facing tools your audience can use to get #VoteReady.
- Some states have changed their registration laws and voter ID requirements since the last federal election. Some states will even remove voters from the active registration list if they haven’t voted in a few years. So, even if someone has voted in the same place for many years, they should check their voter registration and make a plan to vote.
- Even if a voter thinks they’re registered to vote, it’s important to make sure. If a voter has recently turned 18, moved, changed their name, or wants to change their political party affiliation, they should register to vote before this election!
- Right now is the best time to check your registration or get registered! Many states voter registration deadlines fall during National Voter Education Week or right after.
